Executive Summary

New JRF research: The housing pathways of new migrants
This research explores the arrival experiences and settlement stories of new immigrants. It focuses on the housing experiences of new immigrants and considers the consequences of their arrival for local housing markets and neighbourhoods. A comparison of the experiences of asylum seekers and refugees with other migrants forms a key part of the findings.

UNHCR
The first meeting of the High Commissioner’s Dialogue on Protection Challenges will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from 11-12 December, 2007 and focus on the relationship between refugee protection, durable solutions and international migration.

The Dialogue, chaired by High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres, will examine the challenges and dilemmas linked to refugee protection today in the context of mixed migratory flows. It will highlight opportunities for strengthening operational and other partnerships in this regard. A discussion paper has been prepared for this event.

Home Office
The Home Office has published its 2007 Autumn Performance Report, which includes information on targets for reducing the number of unfounded asylum applications.

Successful legal pilots for detained asylum seekers to become permanent
Two successful legal advice pilots for detained asylum seekers and immigrants are to become a permanent part of the legal aid service, the Legal Services Commission (LSC) has said. Invitations to tender for advice services at police stations and IRC will close on Friday 4 January 2008.
